About Boise Arena
The Boise State Broncos play their home games out of ExtraMile Arena (formerly BSU Pavilion and Taco Bell Arena). The facility is a multi-purpose indoor arena on the campus of Boise State University in Boise, Idaho. The venue is home to the Broncos basketball and gymnastics teams and currently stands at a seating capacity for over 12,600 fans for basketball events.
The venue also sees frequent use for concerts, community events, trade shows, and has hosted a Davis Cup tennis match in April 2013.
Bronco Gym
The arena was built to replace Bronco Gymnasium. The old facility opened in the mid-1950s during the university’s junior college era. The last varsity basketball game played at the Gymnasium was on February 27, 1982 against the team’s rival Idaho. This game was such a big deal for fans that it sold out two weeks before the game and had record attendance for Saturday night games of 3,946 guests. This was despite the listed capacity being only 3,682.
Basketball Tournaments
The new venue hosted four Big Sky Conference men’s basketball tournaments while the Broncos were still members of the conference in 1985, 1989, 1990, and 1994. BSU made it to the finals in 1989 and won the finals in 1994.
Since then, ExtraMile Arena became a familiar site for early-round NCAA tournament games. In fact, it hosted the first and second round competition nine times (1983, 1989, 1992, 1995, 1998, 2001, 2005, 2009, and 2018). It was scheduled to host its tenth set of games in 2021, but had to cancel due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
